I’LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT

The wind has often been more of a thorn in my flesh than a cherished gift.  Sometimes I would avoid doing things because of the wind or get irritated by the effects of the wind.

Have you ever allowed something you have no control over to dictate your choices?  Have you ever thought, “I’ll believe it when I see it?”

I was challenged three times within the span of about six weeks to describe something I never had physically seen.  I was asked to describe the Holy Spirit of God in very different scenarios, but all three times I immediately thought of the wind and described the effects of the wind on things around us as a way to see the work of God.  Maybe this took a lot of faith on my part; maybe it was just the surrender to accepting that which I could not see as being a reality.  I personally have never seen the process my eyes go through to capture images and register them in my brain and then associate them with data like words, experiences, and senses.  Yet, I am constantly engaged in this process.  I have come to realize, I cannot see God nor would I be able to because His holiness is more than I could manage.  Moses was not able to see Him, but God showed himself to Moses through a burning bush.  Not that God needed to do this, but He did it to grow Moses’ faith.  Now God is growing my faith.

“We walk by faith, not by sight.”

~ 2 Corinthians 5:7

___________

CAN YOU SEE THE WIND?

I see a kite dancing.

I see a balloon bobbing.

I see a pinwheel shimmering.

The clouds play charades high in the sky.

Can you see the wind?

***

I see the bubbles floating.

I see the flag waving.

I see the sailboat gliding.

The ripples skate across the water.

Can you see the wind?

***

I see trees swaying.

I see dirt spinning.

I see snow cascading.

My hair whirls and twirls wildly.

Can you see the wind?

***

The bees hover.

The butterflies twitter.

The eagles soar.

I see the work of the wind.

The mighty hand of God.

***

An indescribable,

Faith inspiring,

Awesome display of

Mystery and wonder!

Can you see the work of God?

I can!

___________

Setting aside my former opinions of the wind moved me out of my comfort zone and broadened my perspective of the wind.  I will never be able to fully comprehend the Holy Spirit.  Having a little glimpse into being able to describe Him in a tangible way to another is a treasure I cherish.  Rather than dictating my comfort, the wind now entices me to reflect and pontificate the working of the Holy Spirit.

It is my prayer you will look at the wind differently and see the Mighty God, Creator of ALL, is among you and has shown Himself in the world around you.  I pray you will slow down and watch the wind, see it’s beauty, and stand in awe of the One who commands it all!
